In 2022, We Love SE25 began to discuss stepping back from the Council’s regeneration efforts and move forward independently as a community group.
We had raised what we think are serious concerns about funds and how the whole award couldn’t be allocated to the area. We also pushed for updates on key projects and have been particularly upset by delays. Moreover, increasingly over the years, conversations about capacity building didn’t take into account our group’s vision and desire. Decisions affecting the community lacked regular input from those most impacted, led to a gradual decline in engagement and left members uncertain about how their efforts were being used to visibly improve the local area.
In light of these concerns, in 2023/2024 we began discussion with members to move away from association with the Council’s Regeneration team, reconstitute as a community-led group, committed to creating real, meaningful opportunities for resident involvement and advocating for the needs of our neighbourhood. Therefore, we formally gave notice that we could not take on a guardian role and reshaped our constitution to be more independent.
This was agreed and approved at our AGM in October 2024.
